And Now For Something Completely Similar

So, it’s been over a month since my last post. I must have loads to post… right?

Well - erm, no. Although I do have a few things that I eant to get up and running, I don’t have enough time to post them at the moment. For example, I have several more stock vectors that I wanted to share. They’re already drawn up and just need sorting and posting. My google stats are showing me that my existing stock vectors are quite popular.

I also wanted to share a few graphic design and flash websites that have helped me get through my stupidly heavy workload these last few months. Rather than just posting links, I wanted to post some basic info about them too - which again will take more time than I have at the moment.

So, for the moment I’ll just leave you with these Abstract images I created in Photoshop as part of an experimental series. Feel free to pillage them for personal use. View the full size images here.

Here’s another omission from my Deviant Art back catalogue. Needless to say, I haven’t had chance to create any new content; but I promise there are a few things in the pipeline.

This one was created a few months back. Based around a little wordplay again. I think it works OK; but I’ll let you be the judge ;)

Roman Vector Files

Roman Vector Silhouettes
-

My name is Maximus Decimus Meridius, Commander of the Armies of the North, General of the Felix Legions, loyal servant to the true emperor, Marcus Aurelius, father to a murdered son, husband to a murdered wife, and I will have my vengeance; in this life or the next.

That’s all very well, but why have you got a Kiwi accent? Hmmm.

I created these silhouettes a while ago for a project I as working on. All are created from source images by hand (some of them took me longer than I’d like to admit to). All of the elements are seperate and editable within the file, to use as you see fit. Elements include:

• cavalryman on bolting horse
• foot soldiers/small legion
• soldier in smug pose
• centurion (partly obscured)
• trajan column
• olive tree
• aquaduct
• gladiator chariot with archer
• colloseum
• temple (? i think) ruin near colloseum

This post is marked StooStock; the file is free to download and use as you wish. Download is an Illustrator 8 eps file so it should be compatible with all Illustrator versions.

Conkers

I haven’t done very much lately regarding the blog. I think I’m losing patience with it, especially as my freelance website hasn’t been finished yet (and is my obvious priority). Luckily though, I have heaps of back catalogue to keep this baby updated :)

This is the first in a series of comic strips I started last year. I love messing about with bits of wordplay; especially when it embellishes my sick sense of humour. Unfortunately this means that many of the gags work better spoken than in comic form, but the more astute amongst you should still get them.

I’ll post some more soon. Please don’t rip this off or repost it without a link to this page.

Orange In Mouth

Slightly childish - as per all of my Youtubery.

This one involves a grown man trying to fit a full orange in his mouth. Good times.

Windows 7(%)

So I was sitting around thinking, ‘I want my OS to look shiny, but be practically unusable’. I’m a PC, and Windows 7 was my idea.

I tried setting up an email account on a new Windows 7 laptop today. This seemingly simple activity was nearly cut short by an aneurysm, caused by exposure to the most stupefying operating system I’ve ever used. Well, maybe that’s not quite true - what actually almost occurred was my head exploding in a fit of disbelief. Upon feeling this pressure build up within my cranium, my only thought in the face of impending death was, “I hope shards of my skull pierce the hard drive and take this muck to the grave with me”.

A bit of an extreme monologue; but seriously, what a piece of shit.

Some background - this isn’t some rehashing of the PC versus Mac debate. I mainly use mac, but agree that there is a place for PC too (mainly gaming, where Mac dies on it’s arse for support unfortunately). I should also explain that I’m no novice computer user. I’ve been using PCs frequently for the better part of fifteen years, and macs daily for the last ten. Having been quite content using Windows 95, 98, ME and XP ‘back in the day’, I was befuddled as to why the new and improved’ version of windows has menus that are so unbelievably useless. Maybe Mac OSX has spoilt me with a menu structure that actually lead somewhere, and doesn’t constantly try to second guess and hold my hand through every action. Windows 7 was messing with my mojo at every opportunity:

‘What would you like to do with the USB drive you just inserted?’
‘Well, maybe you’d like to open it?’
‘With what?’
‘You’re the computer; you tell me’
‘Well I could show you the files, or I could create a slideshow, or I could dress up like a polar bear and dance for money’
‘Show me the files’
‘No’

One big problem was no Outlook Express anywhere to be seen. I take it Bill Gates is making extra dollars selling this seperately now… and various Windows pop-up boxes really hindered my success with Thunderbird. I could spend half an hour listing all of the problems I encountered whilst setting up the email account, but I’m just going to skip the foreplay and splurge the ending. The email account isn’t running through a mail client on the PC after an hour of trying. It will however, run through webmail.

I later tested the setup on a mac - i had the email up and running in less then 2 minutes. Mac 1 - PC Nil.

Slow Progress

It’s been well over a week since my last post. Not having time to post more stuff is really chaffing my balls :(

This post (probably more adequately described as a filler) is just to draw attention to my new side icons. Each of these links to the relevant category archive. I think you’ll agree that it looks better than the insanely ugly sans serif text links that were there previously. I created the icons myself - not amazingly original (and slightly repetitive) but I think they look quite good. They won’t be getting changed for a while anywho, so put up and shut up ;)

I might upload the vector files onto here soon for free download. But again, just depends on how busy I am.

Arse Slap

I haven’t had chance to make any real new content, so it’s time for another youtube back catalogue update. This video features one of my favourite beer games; the arse slap. Watch it for tips on how to play, although if you can’t guess from the name, then you might struggle anyway.

There will be some more stock art coming very soon. I already have one ready and waiting, but just haven’t had time to make it user friendly and upload it yet. Soon though… very soon.

Zip-It!

Zip-It!
-

I had an idea a while back to create a Pattern Brush based on a zip. It’s taken me a little while to get some free time to be able to do it, but here it is. The result looks OK. I’ve tried it out on a few different shapes and the corners seem to hold up pretty well.

I’m putting this in the StooStock section which means feel free to download and use as you wish. But as with all of my content, if you use this on a project please show me when it’s done; for no reason other than my curiosity.

Download is an Illustrator 8 eps file so it should be compatible with all Illustrator versions. I’m not sure if the brush will open up in other vector software - try it and see.

String Sentience

I was doing some research the other day for a psychotherapist (it was work, not personal :D ), and in the process I dreamt up a semi-impressive pun. I added a little bit of Adobe Illustrator and this image is the resulting pixelation.
-
I do like a bit of gratuitous wordplay. I’ll post some of my other punnery images up here very soon. I’m also considering whether to make the vector robot available as a free stock image… hmm. Maybe.
